Regulating my nervous system

Over the past year I’ve been on a huge journey to regulate my nervous system after being very dysregulated for years. 

Since putting in the work and maintaining my spiritual practices over this past year I honestly feel like an entirely new person. 

If you haven’t been feeling like yourself lately it could be because you are dysregulated. Here is how I know when my nervous system is dysregulated:

  • Difficulty concentrating or focusing
  • Irritability or mood swings
  • Feeling overwhelmed easily
  • Trouble sleeping or experiencing nightmares
  • Increased heart rate or palpitations
  • Digestive issues such as stomach aches or nausea
  • Hypervigilance or feeling constantly on edge
  • Difficulty regulating emotions or experiencing intense emotional reactions

 

If you have been feeling any of those it would be worth talking to a health professional about the best way to work on regulating your nervous system but also looking at what you can currently shift in your environment to help you start feeling more regulated. Some of the changes I made were:

  • Limit caffeine
  • Focusing on quality sleep 
  • Meditation
  • Check in and reflections
  • Slow movement
  • Co-regulating with Coopa & Tim
  • Singing & dancing
  • Phone free time
  • Getting sunshine or being out in nature
  • Journalling

Keeping to your spiritual practices and doing cup filling activities can have an incredible impact on your nervous systems. A big shift for me was my workouts - I changed from doing strength training to a slower form with either reformer or mat pilates. I found starting my day like this really set a flowy and calm tone even just from the difference in music alone. It also helped me really get into my feminine energy which is something I struggle with so that’s an added bonus.
