Stubborn Weight... And Why You're Not Losing It

ARE YOU DOING ALL THE RIGHT THINGS, AND STILL NOT LOSING WEIGHT?

Weight can be a tricky thing… and as women, most of us are consumed by achieving our “goal weights”.

But do you feel like you’re not losing that stubborn weight, even though you think you’re doing ALL the right things humanly possible!?

As women, I believe our main goal should be to prioritise our health and wellbeing, rather than the number on the scale! However, I know that the information in this blog post may be of help to some you, so I’ve decided to give you a list of reasons WHY you could be struggling to loose weight. There is no one size fits all solution here ladies (I know.... that’s so not fair!) so I recommend taking this information as possibilities rather than facts, and I encourage you to highlight any points that might resonate with you and then rule each factor out slowly, through both medical advice and self awareness!

I got to the bottom of many of my own health issues with a mixture of these two key factors. I see a qualified naturopath, and as you know I always practice tuning into my body’s signals and cues (because these bad boys could be tipping you off to some major health issues if you pay close attention!)

If you are struggling to get in tune with your body and aren’t recognising your signals and cues, then maybe I can help!

Recently, I released my very own eBook “Find Your Healthy: Beginners Guide to Intuitive Eating + Healthy Living Recipes” and in part 1 of this eBook, I provide you with some key tools and knowledge to begin getting in touch with your body again, plus I teach you how to hone in on your body’s biofeedback!

Note: Most of the information gathered for this blog post is - to the best of my knowledge - credible through my health coach course! However, I have also included some points that come from my own personal experiences too!

So without further ado, here is a list of the possible reasons you may be struggling to lose weight.

REASONS WHY:

  • You’re highly stressed – your body is crazy busy making cortisol, the stress hormone (when you have high cortisol, your body holds on to body fat as a coping mechanism).

  • You’re exercising too much. Your nervous system may be screaming for a break.

  • Your blood sugar levels are out of balance.

  • Your hormones are imbalanced.

  • You’re on the pill. It is a known side effect.

  • You don’t believe you can lose weight. Your mind is a powerful thing girls, so start believing in yourself!

  • You’re eating processed foods – they’re full of crap and could be hurting your gut!

  • Your gut flora isn’t in balance.

  • You’re drinking too much coffee (I am guilty of this one!).

  • You’re eating too much, period. And yes, you can have too much of a good thing – even healthy foods! Combat this with intuitive eating!

  • You’re eating out (restaurants and takeaway) too often. There is just no way to know what’s going into your food unless you make it yourself.

  • You’re not eating enough. Food is fuel and your body needs nutrients to survive, let alone thrive!

  • You’re not getting enough fibre. It helps to clear toxins and hormones out of the body and keep you feeling full and satisfied between meals.

In my opinion you should be focusing on your health, energy levels and life longevity rather than your weight. I believe that by focusing on these key things, you will find that weight loss is a welcomed side effect to living a healthy, balanced lifestyle!

You should strive to be fit, healthy and strong... with a weight that is sustainable GFs!

WHAT’S NOT REALISTIC?

Aiming for the same weight you were at 15-17 years old

Girls, girls, girls. Our bodies were most likely prepubescent back then, and SINCE then, our bodies have gone through some incredible new changes! This means you will now respond differently to certain factors and foods then you used to. (I remember the days I could eat my weight in chocolate and not notice a single difference, however today that is not the case for me!)

Thinking you need to lose a certain amount of weight in order to be “attractive”

Baby girls, we need to adjust our expectations and stop expecting unrealistic body goals. Instead, you should be thriving off realistic, reasonable and ACHIEVABLE goals where you feel comfortable in your own skin. You should strive to make sure your body is healthy and balanced. NEWS FLASH, the perfect body doesn’t exist! What does exist? The healthiest version of YOU! You just have to find it. And that’s so much better than a number on a scale.

In my health coach course, I also got to learn about some cool nutrition tips that might help you, so I thought I would share a few of those with you too! I would like to reiterate here that I am not a qualified nutritionist myself, this information is what I have gathered through my health coach studies.

TIPS FOR WEIGHT LOSS:

  • Eat protein with every meal – including breakfast! If you have trouble with this, I suggest finding an all natural, plant-based protein supplement to assist.

  • Bin the artificial sweeteners - they could be messing with your gut floral.

  • Limit refined foods.

  • Fill half of your plate with greens and veggies.

  • Consume enough fibre. Good sources include psyllium husk, chia seeds, oats, beans and legumes.

  • Take care of your stress levels.

  • Eat more foods from the Brassica vegetable family (like broccoli and kale) as they help remove excess oestrogen from the body and keep the liver healthy.

I wanted to write this blog post so that I could help open your eyes to the countless factors and possibilities that contribute to our everyday health and wellbeing! This is a lot of information to take in, but know that many of these factors will not apply to you and your current lifestyle. What I do encourage is for you to prioritise your health, listen to your body’s biofeedback (because our bodies are so smart!) and think LESS about the number on the scales.

Repeat after me..

“Numbers do not define us!”

As long as you’re looking after your body, the rest will be a welcomed byproduct.

Love always,

G x
