Doing Vs Being As a Mother

Hey my loves,

Do you struggle to surrender and trust the unknown?

Yesterday on the poddy I interviewed the amazing Emily East about her book Like a Mother - you can listen to that episode here.

In her book she speaks about the concept of Doing vs Being and stepping into surrender, which as someone who loves to be in control is something that I have struggled with.

When you become a mum it is a bit of a reality check and I realised I honestly didn’t have much control. You have a little human who has needs, who has to be able to express their own emotions and it can be a bit rattling when you realise how difficult it can actually be to get anything done.

As someone who is often stuck in my masculine “doing” energy, stepping into the feminine “being” energy is something that I have always struggled with. I realised how important it is to be in this energy when I’m with Ivy though and really to just surrender to whatever happens rather than worry about ticking every box.

If we have something planned but it’s not working it’s important to just be able to go with the flow and not feel dysregulated by these plans changing.

Here are some of my tips to stepping into your feminine energy:

  1. Connect with your body: Take the time to connect with your body to really tap into your feminine energy. This could be doing things like practising yoga, dancing or even breathwork.
  2. Prioritise self-care: Nurturing yourself is so important when it comes to tapping into your feminine energy. For me, I love to have a sauna or get a massage but it could be anything like having a nice bubble bath or reading a book you love - whatever fills your cup.
  3. Embrace your emotions: I didn’t realise how much I limited myself when it comes to expressing my emotions and seeing how Ivy expressed herself really opened my eyes to how important it is to allow ourselves to feel deeply.
  4. Surround yourself with beauty: Surrounding yourself with things like flowers, art, music can really help you tap into that side of yourself.

It’s so important to be able to really embrace this being energy as a mum so that you don’t get rattled when plans change or things shift because let’s be honest - they will. During the season of stepping into motherhood I found this quite difficult because as a bit of a control freak - it is really hard to when you have to let go. It affected me quite negatively for a while but once I started doing some identity work and really focusing on stepping into my new self as a mother I was a whole new person. This is what led me to create my new course Re-birth which is all about embracing motherhood and doing it on your own terms whatever that may look like for you.

Love always,

G xx
