HERE’S WHY WE ALL NEED TO BE OUR OWN BEST FRIEND

Hey my love,

What is your internal dialogue like?

Honestly, sometimes we can be our own worst enemies. It  can be easy to judge ourselves, cristcise ourselves and hold ourselves to impossible standards (hello rose coloured glasses on our future selves).

How can we work around this? I think it’s time that we all start to be our own best friend.

Being your own best friend means treating yourself with the same love, care and respect that you would show your best friend. It means being your own hype girl, your biggest fan and your best supporter.

As some of you may know, I'm releasing a limited edition collection of pre-workout, protein & some cute accessories in collaboration with NH and the whole campaign is centered around my 7 rules of being your own best friend.

I thought I’d take you through the 7 rules and what they all mean so that we can all use these tips to help us be our own best friend.

1. Shift your internal dialogue

You would never be mean to your bestie or speak negatively about her to other people - you love her for who she is, you’re her biggest cheerleader and you make her feel good when she needs it. It’s time to shift your internal dialogue to reflect this… If you wouldn’t say it to your bestie don’t say it to yourself.

2. Keep the promises you make with yourself

When you make a promise to your best friend, you keep it. The same should happen when you make promises to yourself - it’s time to treat your word as if it were law. This is the first step to building self trust, the more you follow through on your promises the more trustworthy you become to yourself and others.

3. Turn up the volume of your intuition

We all have that gut feeling that tells us whether something is right or wrong… but it can be super easy to ignore. If your bestie sat you down and poured out her heart to you and told you that she thought what you were doing was wrong - you wouldn’t just ignore her, you’d LISTEN. It’s time to respect your intuition and give it a voice.

4. Stay true to your boundaries

You always respect your best friend’s boundaries - I’m sure you wouldn’t have a problem with her taking time & space to recharge either. It’s time to make sure you place that same importance on yourself & hold your boundaries strong. Remember, if you don’t respect your boundaries why would anyone else?

5. Dish out the compliments

When your bestie is looking amazing, killing her fitness or even just having a great hair day, I’m sure you don’t hesitate to let her know. It’s time to have this attitude with ourselves - we are always so quick to judge & see room for improvement for ourselves but never compliment ourselves. This will help your confidence grow - be as kind to yourself as you are to your bestie.

6. Know your priorities

If your bestie’s goal was a Europe trip and then she saw a pair of Prada shoes she liked - I’m sure you’d remind her that the cost of those shoes was probably her entire Sail Croatia trip and question if it was really aligned with her priorities to be spending the money on those shoes. It’s important to hold ourselves to this same standard when it comes to our priorities and not let others (or ourselves) pressure us into doing things that don’t align just because “one won’t hurt”.

7. Give yourself permission to go after it

We often wait for someone else to give us permission to pursue our dreams or take risks. I’m sure you are incredibly supportive of any of your bestie’s big goals and dreams. The thing is… you don’t need anyone to tell you what you can & can’t do. If you don’t risk failure you’ll never have the chance to succeed.

It’s all well and good for us to talk about being our own best friend but it’s a whole other ball game when we take steps & put these tips into practice. You will honestly come out a totally different person, a more confident, secure and trustworthy&, trustworthy person not only to others but to YOURSELF - which is most important.

I’m so excited to see everyone with these products super soon. We spoke about the creation and production of this line from ideation to execution in our new series of the pod Behind the Biz - you can listen to it here.

Love always,

G x
